Linda's Lemonade

I am truly lucky, in that no one I know has died from breast cancer...and I'd like to keep it that way. I do however know some wonderful survivors....friends* who make this world so much nicer....and I'm so greatful to have them in my life. If I can help more of our mothers, daughters, sisters, friends be survivors vs. victims, I'd gladly walk till my feet gave out.

Which may happen in May! I've made a commitment to participate in the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day walk to help women detect and survive breast cancer.

There are over one million women in America with undetected breast cancer. A woman's chance of having breast cancer is one in eight. Your chance of knowing this woman is almost 100%. Avon asked, "If we told you there was something you could do to help them find out and survive, how far would you be willing to go?" I answered by accepting the challenge to walk 60 miles over 3 days in May, from Baltimore to Washington, D.C.

I know it won't be easy...in fact it seems close to impossible at times to even contemplate walking so far...but I'm up to the challenge! I've begun training (with my coach, Ken) and am up to about 15-20 miles per week, with my longest single walk being 15 miles. By the time May comes around, I'll be walking 30-40 miles a week in final preparation for the big event. This is an incredible adventure and challenge for me. After all, what have I got to lose, but a few more pounds? And its a healthy reminder of just how much we're capable of doing when we really put our minds to it.

Now I'd like to ask you to make a commitment to support me. I've agreed to reach a goal of $2,000 in pledges between now and May, and I need your help to get there.

The net proceeds from the Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day events fund many different areas of breast cancer, inluding: medical research and clinical care; a national financial assistance program for medically underserved women who need breast biopsies and support services; advocacy traiining; community-based breast health programs and more. Last year they raised $65.5 million.

Together we really CAN make a difference, in our own lives and in those of countless others.

Just DO it!

*A special thank you to Karen, Ann, and Norma, who are remarkable women that enrich my life in immeasurable ways.
